First Action Within the Translation Platform
After exploring the platform and selecting the Gutenberg plugin, I completed my first translations from English into Costa Rican Spanish (es_CR) within the WordPress Polyglots project.
Before starting to translate, I reviewed the different plugin options available within the platform. I decided to work with Gutenberg because I observed that it already had a percentage of progress in its translations. My intention was to contribute to a project that was already in development, in order to help complete part of the existing work rather than start one completely from scratch.
Once inside the project, I was able to view the text strings pending translation. At this stage, I submitted my first proposals by translating different interface texts of the plugin into Spanish. This process allowed me to better understand the workflow within the platform, as well as the importance of respecting context, terminological consistency, and the glossary rules of the es_CR locale.
During this first action, I translated terms related to the editor interface, display options, and plugin settings. Some strings required special attention because they included variables, singular and plural forms, or depended on the context in which they would appear within the system. This required carefully reviewing the glossary and maintaining consistency in translation decisions.
This experience was important because it marked the real beginning of my contribution within WordPress Polyglots. Beyond understanding the platform, this stage allowed me to actively participate in the translation process and clearly see how contributions are built within a global open-source software community.
Completing the first translations allowed me to move from exploring the platform to actively participating in the project, gaining a better understanding of the responsibility and care involved in translating software for other users.
