Initial Setup to Start Contributing to the Polyglots Team

WordPress Polyglots is the WordPress community team responsible for translating the platform, its plugins, and themes into different languages. Their work allows millions of people to use WordPress in their own language, facilitating access to technology across different countries and cultural contexts.

To participate in this translation process, I used the official platform translate.wordpress.org, which allows users to explore projects, available languages, pending text strings, and translation suggestions. This tool serves as the main entry point for anyone interested in collaborating with the Polyglots team.

During this initial stage, I explored the platform to understand how it works. First, I identified the locale Spanish (Costa Rica), corresponding to Costa Rican Spanish (es_CR), which is the language in which I carried out the contribution.

Once inside the selected locale, I explored the different sections available. For this project, I chose to work in the Plugins category, as it includes specific projects that constantly require support in translating new text strings.

Afterward, I reviewed the available projects and selected the Gutenberg plugin. I did not choose a project with 0% progress, as that would imply starting the process completely from scratch. Instead, I opted for a project that already had some translation progress, which allowed me to integrate into work already in development and continue the contribution process in a more practical way.

The setup and preparation stage was essential for understanding the WordPress Polyglots work environment, identifying the contribution language, and selecting an appropriate project before beginning the translation process.
